This made me tear up. I loved William and had a special bond with him. I never knew he had a stroke and it saddens me to hear about the end of his life. It’s good for the soul to write about grief…. Thanks for doing this.

I remember you & William together. Only a few people who read this post will actually know him. That means a lot to me. Thanks.

Touching story. Grief and anticipated grief can freeze us in place. I hope that sharing your love for William here alleviates some regret. He must know. 💓 And perhaps he’s hanging with Max, Rod, and the others…

Brought back memories of MoMing, Susan, clowning, and…. Tem (hmmm), protests in Grant Park. What a town -Chicago! And Sally Banes - a mover and shaker I have the book “Sweet Home Chicago” which it was indeed.

Really sweet piece that only those of us hurtling toward the end of our moment could write; nuanced but brimming with the nostalgic touches I love; pitch perfect tone that resonates with so much about friendship; and as your sister said about memorializing old friends out loud, “Is good for the soul. For me it also touches that special place I have for friends like you who have known me most of my life. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼😘 (3 Bravos and a Kiss…my highest writing award on Substack!)

"3 Bravos and a Kiss" - Substack should institutionalize it as their #1 Rating!

Thanks for reading and commenting so effusively! Did you know William?
